With the new year comes resolution season, new hope, snow, and sometimes frigid temperatures. While you are working on your New Year’s resolutions, don’t forget about your pets who often get stuck indoors or receive minimal exercise during the inclement weather.

Spokane County Public Works Department has announced that as of February 5th, seasonal weight restrictions have been put in effect on all Spokane County roads.

Sometimes “protect and serve” goes beyond simply carrying a badge and a gun to chase down bad guys. Events like Shop with A Cop and Holidays & Heroes bring police officers, firefighters, and first responders together with a great group of volunteers to bring some Christmas magic to families in need.

The year 2020 for Deer Park started off with the swearing in of three City Council members. Caleb Stapp won the election with 694 votes (his opponent, Heather Newsom had 488), Helen Dee Cragun won with 558 votes (her opponent, Carla J. Philips had 548 votes), and Ron Scholz ran unopposed.

Though the Deer Park girls basketball team fell to Freeman in the district championship game 58-46 the Lady Stags came back to defeat Medical Lake 45 – 44 in a final chance “loser out” game.

Meals on Wheels opened the new Silver Cafe where seniors citizens can eat a healthy meal everyday for little to no cost.

Recently, representatives from Colville Valley Animal Sanctuary (CVAS) attended a luncheon held in honor of Winter Blessing recipients. Over 300 non-profit nominees were in the running for the 10 blessings of $1,000 each. CVAS was chosen, and Jeff Hall, Board of Directors President, received the check on behalf of CVAS.

I-976 was an initiative that was approved by voters and was supposed to have gone into effect with the new year. The initiative capped licensing fees and taxes at $35 for all vehicles, essentially doing the same thing that was done in 2002.

Deer Park boys basketball held Freeman off, took the win, and the District title for the second year in a row.
Dawson Youngblood led Deer Park with 24 points, Jobi Gelder had 19, Hunter Dryden 17, and Gavin Hanson contributed 11.
