In an electrifying clash, the Deer Park Lady Stag Basketball team engaged in a fierce battle against Lynden Christian in the state title game, emerging triumphant by the narrowest of margins. With hearts pounding and adrenaline surging, they secured a nail-biting victory.
Four quarters of basketball stood between the Deer Park Lady Stags and a historic first state basketball tournament trophy Thursday evening at the Yakima Valley Sundome against Cashmere in state quarterfinals.
Albeit in a different fashion, the Deer Park Lady Stags took another step towards making history on Saturday with a first-round (regional) win over Bellevue Christian 41-35 at their postseason home away from home West Valley High School. With the victory, Deer Park advances to the Thursday 9:00 pm quarterfinal game against the winner of the Wednesday matchup between eighth-seeded Toppenish and number nine Cashmere needing one more win for the program’s first-ever state trophy.
For the second consecutive Saturday, the Riverside boys basketball team faced a do-or-die elimination matchup, this time on the game’s grandest stage, the state tournament, against Bellevue Christian at West Valley High School. The Rams stood the test, winning 68-58.
The Deer Park Lady Stags built an early lead, then fended off a Lakeside comeback bid Wednesday at West Valley High School to claim their second consecutive district title 49-36.
The Riverside Boys moved to within one win of a trip to state with a dominant 70-44 triumph over Medical Lake at West Valley High School in the District seven third-place game.
The Lady Stags’ precision shooting had them raining down three-pointers and securing a commanding lead in the District 7 1A semifinal at West Valley High School on Thursday.
