Girl Scout Cookie season is here! Even in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the girls are adapting their sales methods to continue the joy of Girl Scout Cookies through the largest girl-led entrepreneurship program in the world.
February proved to be a month for Deer Park to speak out! We received more Letters to the Editor this month than any previous month. Each letter was sincere, well thought out, and insightful. Due to the sheer volume of responses about barking dogs and airplanes, we’ve decided to consolidate the responses. Full versions of the letters will appear on DPGazette.com
It’s time again for the March for Meals campaign! Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels is dedicating the whole month of March to bringing awareness to the silent malady of poor nutrition and isolation. Meals on Wheels is kicking off the month with their Mall Crawl.
In response to the two letters in the January 2021 edition “Of Barking Dogs and Circling Planes”. We moved here in 2003, my husband was from the area originally but put many years in the Marine Corp, and worked after that for a time. We live about a mile and half south of the Deer Park Airport. Being a military family we, lived on bases or very close.
I think it is important to not link the issue of noisy dogs and airplane noise. The Deer Park Airport is an amazing asset to our community! Fabulous air shops, several airplanes related businesses, a terrific base for firefighting aircraft, and more. The Airport has really put Deer Park on the map for many years!
Each month’s prompt will be in the newspaper and on Facebook. Our favorite stories will be published the following month. Responses will be judged on creativity and the ability to communicate a story. Submit your six-word story by the 25th of each month.
In response to Dec 2020 “Of Barking Dogs…” etc by William S. the answer is NO! My neighbor does not care of the quality of anyone’s life. I have lived in my home since 1999 and in 2016 my “Kiddie Corner Neighbor” got a dog… A BIG one, with a big bark.
In response to “Barking Dogs and Circling Planes” letters:
We moved to Deer Park in 2014. We knew from the time of the land purchase that we were near an airport and would have low flying planes over our house. They are no bother to us at all, regardless of the type of plane or the time of the flights.
I have loved airplanes and aviation from a very early age. When my grandson was little and visiting we would go outside to watch the planes fly over. I had shown him pictures of various planes, some from WW II. His favorite phrase (at 3 years old) was “I think it’s a Spitfire!!”
The annual Dollars for Scholars Hearts Fund has begun. The fundraising effort runs from February 1st – March 20th. The funds raised will make up scholarships for seniors at Deer Park High School, Home Link, and Deer Park Alternative School.
From the loss of loved ones to arguments about masks and lockdowns, and now tracking the vaccine and deciding whether or not to even get it, everyone has a personal story about the impacts of the virus upon their daily life.
