In response to the two letters in the January 2021 edition “Of Barking Dogs and Circling Planes”. We moved here in 2003, my husband was from the area originally but put many years in the Marine Corp, and worked after that for a time. We live about a mile and half south of the Deer Park Airport. Being a military family we, lived on bases or very close.

The Northern Roots Hair Salon is opening a new spa! Located at 106 East Crawford Street, Roots is a high end day spa offering a wide range of relaxing services, including facials, massage, nails, pedicures, and eyelash extensions. They will be holding a Grand Opening party on Saturday, March 6th, from 11am to 4pm, to give the community a chance to meet their staff and check out their new space!

I think it is important to not link the issue of noisy dogs and airplane noise. The Deer Park Airport is an amazing asset to our community! Fabulous air shops, several airplanes related businesses, a terrific base for firefighting aircraft, and more. The Airport has really put Deer Park on the map for many years!

DOL Updates Guidelines for Employers and Workers

According to a January 29th US Department of Labor news release, “President Biden directed OSHA to release clear guidance for employers to help keep workers safe from COVID-19 exposure.” As a result, the US Department of Labor has reintroduced specific guidance to assist employers and workers to identify and lessen their risks of being exposed to and/or contracting COVID-19 in the workplace.

Proposed Gas Tax

A transportation package proposed in January aims to bring in $26.7 billion and spend $25.8 billion over the next 16 years. This taxation would be part of an effort to steer towards cleaner fuel options, carbon reduction initiatives, and would include plans to fund highway-related upkeep and developments. As a result of this plan, Washington drivers could see a total of $1 per gallon for fuel related taxes.
