I’m excited to endorse Jason Upchurch to serve alongside me on the Deer Park City Council. Jason and I have worked together for years to make Deer Park a better place to live and I trust his values and vision for our future.

Remembering Why We Celebrate

Independence Day is coming soon. It will be on July 4th, just as it is every year. I have noticed that many people, including myself, have taken to calling this holiday the 4th of July, rather than by its correct name. I don’t understand why this has happened. We don’t do this with our other holidays that are on fixed dates. No one says “Have a Merry 25th of December”, or “Have a Happy 31 December and January 1”. We call them by their proper names. I realize that these are dates that we have assigned to these holidays.

Vaccine Voyage

COVID-19 has dominated our conversation and our thoughts for over a year. The virus brought with it some tough challenges. 2020 was a year of difficult transitions; however, you might say that is true of any year. That is the nature of our existence. We grow older, we change, the world changes and it requires that we change with it.

Letter To Editor: Caleb Stapp

Dear Editor,

City Hall is falling down.

After bringing this topic to the council’s attention on multiple occasions I shared the thoughts below with them at tonight’s meeting on April 21st. I also wanted to share these thoughts with the wider community as I add my voice to the ongoing discussion happening throughout our town.

A few caveats: I don’t have this all figured out, I don’t have a specific option that I prefer for how to remedy the situation, and I believe we should make this decision slowly. I also strongly believe in wise preparations and think we should begin setting aside funds from future budgets so that we live within our means just like any wise family in our community.

Letter To Editor: An Attitude of Gratitude

As we complete three-quarters of the school year, we feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Gratitude for our teachers, staff, administration, parents, and community members who helped make this year work for our students. It is not perfect. It is not at all “normal.” But we have students physically in school everyday. Let us say that again: We have students physically in school EVERYDAY.

Letter To The Editor – Mike Wood

It was apparent that Jessica C’s recent response to Mary F’s concern about continuous flight school air traffic over her country residence was terribly biased towards allowing a single small local business group to affect the quality of life for many in our chosen county setting.

Eyes Wide Shut – Letter To Editor

I have a message for the great citizens of Deer Park and anyone reading this fine newspaper. I’ll preface the message by quoting a line from a famous British rock band “IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?” Interpretation: What on God’s blue earth is happening to our country? Why does it seem we are standing here stone-faced watching this disaster unfold like some slow motion train wreck? Do we really believe we’re on the right track to continued peace, prosperity, freedom and independence as given to us by our founding fathers through our sacred Constitution and its inalienable Bill of Rights?

Voices About Barking Dogs & Circling Airplanes

February proved to be a month for Deer Park to speak out! We received more Letters to the Editor this month than any previous month. Each letter was sincere, well thought out, and insightful. Due to the sheer volume of responses about barking dogs and airplanes, we’ve decided to consolidate the responses. Full versions of the letters will appear on DPGazette.com
