High school students from Washington’s Fifth Congressional District are invited to participate in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition, announced by Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05). This annual event highlights talented students nationwide and encourages community members to spread the word.

The 2022 winner, Meagan Hilfiker, was honored with her artwork “Kia Kaha,” displayed in the U.S. Capitol. The 2023 winner will also be invited to Washington, D.C., for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with their artwork displayed in the Capitol for the next year. The runners-up will be showcased in the Congresswoman’s local offices. Students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to submit various styles and types of art, such as paintings, drawings, photography, and mixed media pieces.

Artwork must be original in design, weigh no more than 15 lbs., and be no larger than 26″ X 26″ X 4″ (including the frame). Three runners-up will have their artwork displayed in the Congresswoman’s Spokane, Colville, and Walla Walla offices. Each student may submit one piece of artwork with a typed copy of the 2023 Student Release Form securely attached to the back of the entry, signed by the teacher, a parent or guardian, and the student. To help to certify the originality of the piece. Students are asked to retain a copy for their records.
