Gallery: Miss Deer Park 2025 Elegance & Achievement

All six of Miss Deer Park 2005 contestants, Hailey Billesbach, Ashlyn Rudnick, Grace Wortman, Joeli Thomas, Elizabeth Hamilton, and Abby Castle, before the announcement of scholarship winners.

The Miss Deer Park Scholarship Association chose their 71st representatives. The program was rich with poise and promise as six talented young ladies took to the stage. From fitness to composure, they held nothing back while competing to be the face of Deer Park. An image gallery awaits because what’s a royal moment without a little paparazzi?

The title of Miss Deer Park has evolved quite a bit since its 1954 inception. Initiated by the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, Lorriane Bishop was chosen to ride the newly constructed Deer Park float and serve as a representative of our city and hostess to the community. Though much has changed, these two responsibilities are still a huge part of the Miss Deer Park title.  

When you think of The Miss Deer Park program, you might picture a showcase of elegant glamor charged with artistic expression, which is certainly part of it.  However, this competition encompasses much more. This year again highlighted the program’s depth and the young ladies who participate.

Yes, there are pretty dresses, beautiful hairstyles, coordinated dances, and delicate parade waves. However, there are also several requirements that challenge these ladies on a much deeper level. They are judged by their grades and college preparation, clarity of expression, sense of values and concern for others, as well as overall fitness, composure, and self-expression. 

All of this will prove useful to the chosen ladies over the next 12 months as Deer Park’s representatives, not to mention going forward into college, trade schools, and careers. And oh the places they’ll go! 

The six participants in this competition were Hailey Billesbach, Ashlyn Rudnick, Grace Wortman, Joeli Thomas, Elizabeth Hamilton, and Abby Castle. All of these young ladies shone in the spotlight. 

The Winners

In addition to the title of Miss Deer Park and her two princesses, nine other scholarships were awarded, worth $500 each.

A life spectacularly lived

Denette Leeann March was born on 08-21-2002 to Lonnie and Tracy March in Spokane, WA. She grew up in Deer Park, WA where she spent her childhood on her family dairy goat farm and Animal rescue, traveling extensively and enjoying all things school with an influence in FFA, 4-H , and production.  

In all the cracks of Denette’s life from 6 years old to shortly prior to passing she was an avid and passionate concert attendee and traveler, in her short time in this life she traveled to 15 countries with some of her favorites destinations including Ireland, London, Hawaii, Belize, New York, Forks, La Push, Montana, and countless Caribbean islands.

Fred R. Miller

FRED R. MILLER,  passed away at home on Jan 14, 2026.  Fred was born in Spokane WA, on April 4,1944.   He grew up in Spokane attending Central Valley High School until his senior year, graduating from Deer Park High School in 1962.  Fred enlisted in the Navy out of high school, spending time in San Diego and Annapolis. He later graduated from WSU with distinction.

Shirley McRae Passes Away at 91

Shirley Eleanor (Kintschi) McRae, 91, of Spokane and formerly Deer Park, passed away on December 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born to Morris Kintschi and Anna (Tanner) Kintschi on April 29, 1934, in Edwall, Washington. She graduated from Edwall High School in 1952, where she met her husband-to-be, John McRae. John and Shirley were married in 1954, and they lived in Redondo Beach, California, while John served in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Spokane in 1955, living on Five Mile Prairie, then at Dartford, and finally in the house that John designed and built in Deer Park in 1976, where the family lived for over 42 years.

This Weekend, Bounce Around Deer Park For Settlers Fun

Starting this Friday, Deer Park’s Settlers Day weekend features many old and new events to keep you hopping around town. People can see a lively parade, rodeo, fire station demonstrations, youth baseball tournaments, and a farm swap. Food vendors, live music, and family-friendly activities throughout the town. Additionally, there’s an opportunity to give back at a Special Olympics fundraiser, complete with water fights involving local fire and law enforcement personnel.
