Rotary Student of the Month March 2021

Here are the three “Students of the Month” chosen for March 2021.

Serina Crossley, Mary Walker High School – Rotarian Marty Hilton introduced Serina as a native of Springdale who believes she is the only senior this year who attended all twelve years in the Mary Walker School District. In addition to high school, Serina is pursuing her AA degree in the Running Start program. Serina is a member of the girls basketball and softball teams at Mary Walker High School. Both of their seasons were cut short due to Covid-19, and she’s happy soccer will soon begin. ECEAP Slots In Deer Park

The Deer Park Early Learning Center program has 14 additional ECEAP full day slots. Currently, the program has 2 full day and 2 half day classrooms. The increase will allow them to offer 2 more half day classes.

Sandra Lynn Kircher

Sandra Lynn Kircher, age 73, and a long time resident of the Valley area, went home to be with her Lord on the evening of December 20, 2020. Sandee was born to Elmer and Margaret (Sisson) McQuire on February 23, 1947 in Tampa, Florida.

Susan Joan Bithell Lyons

On January 17, 2020 Susan Joan Bithell Lyons of Deer Park WA, walked through the door marked the servants entrance and into the arms of the Lord she dearly cherished and loved. She passed away at home peacefully in sleep from natural causes. Sue had just celebrated turning 76 on December 29, 2020. She was born on December 29, 1944 at 8:02 PM at Deaconess hospital in Spokane WA to Cleo Juanita Bithell and Robert James Bithell. Rotary Student of the Month: December

Hannah Carnahan is the December Student of the Month from Deer Park High School. Hannah, a member of the Associated Student Body and Link Crew loves “being part of a great social atmosphere.” Playing soccer since the age of 5,she now plays for the school team. She said that since COVID, ASB is having trouble putting plans together but she is now part of the team forming Spirit Week. Hannah wants to go into nursing first and then has aspirations of becoming a Physician’s Assistant. She will be starting at North Idaho College.

Christmas Cavalcade

Youngsters and their parents began arriving at Legacy Farm and Stable early on December 19th to decorate horses. They came from a wide area over Stevens and Spokane counties. Once all 15 steeds had been decked in their festive best, the cavalcade (formal procession) departed the stable. Taking a route often used for the trail riding program at Legacy Farm and Stable, then crossing Highway 292, the group proceeded to Colville Road. There the caroling began. An advance team went ahead on an ATV to knock on doors and let people know the riders were coming. Many residents were excited to come stand outside in the cold and take pictures and sing along.

New Tech for Stevens County Libraries

The Libraries of Stevens County started in January loaning out Verizon MiFi Jetpacks and laptops. The devices and service were made possible by CARES grants from Stevens County and the Washington State Library to provide internet and technology access in areas with limited resources and connectivity.

The Spokane County Library District is hosting a virtual art show through January and February for anyone who would like to participate. There are no age, experience, or medium restrictions. Draw, color, build, sculpt, knit, etc your entry.

Greenhouse Distribution of Tom’s Turkey Drive

The Greenhouse Community Center at 211 N Fir Ave in Deer Park is holding a drive-through distribution on November 24th 2020 of an uncooked Thanksgiving meal. The annual Tom’s Turkey Drive event has a modified method of delivery because of the pandemic.
