The City of Deer Park is inviting residents to an open house to provide input on long-term plans for growth, transportation, housing, small agricultural animals, and land use. The event is part of a periodic update to the city’s Comprehensive Plan as state law requires.
Over several years, residents have requested changes to city ordinances; however, before the city council can even consider some changes must first be incorporated into the city’s comprehensive plan. The issue of owning Chickens, Ducks, and Rabbits has been frequently brought up at city council meetings. Other issues include requirements that hinder the growing trend of tiny homes, also known as Accessory Dwelling Units(ADUs).
“We want your input!” states the official notice from the city. The notice for the open house lists the aims to gather public perspectives on several key areas, including potential intersection improvements, specifically mentioning alternatives for Crawford Avenue and Main Street. Beyond transportation, the city seeks input on broader planning topics such as future growth patterns, housing needs, and the role of agricultural uses within the community framework. Agricultural uses include discussions relevant to land use regulations, such as rules concerning raising certain small animals like chickens, ducks, or rabbits on residential properties. City officials state that this public input is crucial and will directly aid in refining present and future planning efforts, helping to shape community goals and necessary improvements.
