Today: City Of Deer Park Budget Workshop

Each year, the city holds a City Budget Workshop for the Mayor & City Council to approve the budget for the following year. While the meeting is open for the public to attend, public comment will not be permitted.

At the beginning of this year, it was announced that the city had a surplus of 2.4 million dollars. That number is above and beyond the separate surplus funds designated for critical services such as water and sewage. The excess funds have continued to grow, and they are expected to increase substantially again during 2024. The council may discuss how best to utilize the extra funds contributed by taxpayers.

Several projects were discussed throughout this year that could utilize the surplus funds, including a splash pad, much needed repairs to city hall, and a law enforcement assessment. So far, each one of the proposals has been delayed or voted down.
