Shutdown: Deer Park Library

Deer Park Library was closed earlier due to an equipment failure and was scheduled to reopen today; however, that date has been extended by at least a week. Individuals will still be able to receive some limited services through Spokane Library’s Mobile Services vehicle.

After the air conditioning system failed at the Deer Park Library, they closed early on August 2nd. They were going to reopen on Monday, August 8th; however, they have extended that to August 15th, and this date is subject to change. Currently, the Spokane County Library District (SCLD) has called the Mobile Service department in the form of LINC to fill in for the services provided by the brick-and-mortar locations, but in a limited capacity.

What is LINC
LINC (Libraries In Neighborhoods & Communities) is the new Mobile Services library vehicle; It is a library on wheels, designed to expand services to reach customers who cannot easily visit one of the 11 libraries in the District.

“Designed with flexibility in mind, LINC delivers a traditional, walk-up bookmobile service with a wide variety of books, DVDs, CDs, and other items for community members to browse and check out. Unlike a traditional bookmobile, LINC also has space to provide library programs such as storytimes, hands-on events, and digital programs and classes.” – Doug Stumbough, Operations Director of SCLD.

Along with borrowing materials and participating in programs, when you visit LINC, you can connect to Wi-Fi for your mobile devices, use a library computer to access the internet, and print your files using the library’s Mobile Printing option.

“One of the greatest values of LINC is that it allows us to regularly bring materials, services, and programming found in our brick-and-mortar locations to neighborhoods and communities in Spokane County that don’t have a library nearby.” – Doug Stumbough, Operations Director of SCLD.

LINC Schedule
LINC will be visiting the Deer Park Library parking lot and will be open for customers to collect holds, use Wi-Fi, and even use library computers on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, August 10, 12–4pm
  • Friday, August 12, 10am–2pm
  • Monday, August 15, 12–4pm
