Deer Park Library Doors Closed, Books Still Rolling Out

An HVAC failure has temporarily shut down the Deer Park Library building. In the meantime, the library is offering curbside pickup and mobile library visits to keep services available. Full access will resume once repairs are complete.

Due to a malfunction in its air conditioning system, the Deer Park Library building is closed to the public while HVAC repairs are underway. To ensure continued service during the shutdown, the Spokane County Library District is providing curbside pickup and scheduled visits from its mobile unit, LINC. These temporary amenities are designed to meet community needs until the library can safely reopen. This is not the first closure caused by HVAC repairs; during August of 2022, the library was also closed and did not end up reopening for a couple of weeks. You can read that article at: News.dpgazette.com/2022/08/shutdown-deer-park-library/

The district initially announced the closure on June 27th, expecting to reopen by July 12th. However, just one day before that scheduled return, the library extended the closure through August 3rd after determining that more time was needed for repairs.

During the closure, curbside pickup is available Monday through Saturday from 9am to 12pm. Patrons can walk or park their vehicle in the designated curbside spots and call the curbside pickup number posted to have held items brought out. They may also hand off oversized return items directly to staff. The outside drop box remains open at all times for returning regular materials. Please note that all indoor programs and events have been canceled or postponed.

LINC, the mobile library, will be visiting the Deer Park Library parking lot and other community locations on select dates. Onboard the LINC, visitors can browse materials, use Wi-Fi, access a computer, and print files. There are also some fun, child-friendly activities. However, LINC staff are not able to retrieve specific holds from the Deer Park Library itself that can only happen during curbside hours.

LINC will be at the Deer Park Library parking lot on:

  • Thursday, July 17th, 9am – 4 pm
  • Tuesday, July 22nd, 2pm – 4pm.
  • Wednesday, July 23rd, 2pm – 4pm
  • Tuesday, July 29th, 9:30am – 4pm
  • Wednesday, July 30th, 9:30am – 4pm
  • Thursday, July 31st, 9:30am – 4pm
  • Friday, August 1st, 9:30am –4pm

Additional LINC stops include:

  • North County Food Pantry is located at 40015 A North Collins Road, Elk, WA 99009 on Wednesday, July 16th, from 9:30am – 11am
  • Deer Park Market is located at Perrins Field at 300 East Crawford St in Deer Park on Saturday, August 2nd, from 9am – 3pm.
