Abigail’s Garden Party Event and Online Fundraiser

Heroes Homestead is hosting their annual event, Abigail’s Garden Party. This kids’ day get-together is to support our veterans. It is open to the public and fun for the whole family.

Abigail’s Garden Party was started by nine-year-old Abigail Holstine, daughter of Andrew and Danielle Holstine, founders of Heros Homestead. She learned the skill of growing food with her mother when her father was disabled related to his military service. She, in turn, wanted to help others find fortitude and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

In the Heroes Homestead Victory Garden, they supply raised garden beds and plant starters to veterans and their families. They share the love of the outdoors and help parents and kids connect in the garden. In addition, participants learn some pointers for square foot gardening and access age-appropriate activities for emotional and relational support.

This event will run from 12pm to 4pm on Saturday, May 7th, at the Heroes Homestead Victory Garden.

There will be two workshop options:

  • 1:15pm – Engaging Emotions and Building Trust with Parents (for kids and youth) led by peers: Abigail Holstine and Ainsley Carpenter (former Miss Deer Park 2020)
  • 1:30pm – Letting Go of Perfect Parenting Styles with Ingrid Price

Participants of either workshop engage in a parent-kid interactive play.

You can also come and enjoy:

  • Petting Zoo
  • Face Painting
  • Kids Craft Stations
  • Mom & Me Photo Booth
  • Mother’s Day Surprise Gift Station
  • Hearts and Craft Boutique
  • Vintage In Bloom Boutique
  • Snacks and Refreshments
  • Music
  • Plant Swap

Hot dog lunch packs will be available for purchase with proceeds supporting veteran family crisis intervention and prevention.

Organizers would love to have a rough headcount for their garden craft stations; if you plan on coming, they ask you to please visit the event link and click “going” at FB.me/e/1oUVCwzk5. However, this is not a requirement to go to the event.

Abigail’s Garden Party is also running an online fundraiser through the Flower Power site. This fundraiser will raise funds to build garden beds for kids needing sustainable food sources to take home and grow their food. People can support this effort by ordering seeds for their home garden! To do this, go to: DPGazette.com/agardenfund22

For more information, you can go to their website at HeroesHomestead.org.
