Citizens of Deer Park have received their pamphlets and ballots in the mail for the August 3rd Primary Election, which will decide which two candidates from each race will move forward in the General Election.
Early August holds the first election, called the Primary. It’s the qualifying round for the main event, so to speak. Declaration of Candidacy Week is over, anyone that wanted to run for any position that will be open in the 2021 election season had to do it by 4:00pm today.
The year 2020 for Deer Park started off with the swearing in of three City Council members. Caleb Stapp won the election with 694 votes (his opponent, Heather Newsom had 488), Helen Dee Cragun won with 558 votes (her opponent, Carla J. Philips had 548 votes), and Ron Scholz ran unopposed.
