Passionate speeches were given by a number of city residents about how the City Council makes new laws. They spoke about communication and retaining the system the city currently has now.
Chickens. Ever since I sought a seat of service on our City Council in 2019 I have been approached by neighbors new and old who have asked for their freedom back.
Important changes to the way laws are made will be one of the subjects at the next Deer Park City Council meeting. The public hearing is one of the more important opportunities to make your voice heard.
How the City of Deer Park communicates with residents was one of the most discussed issues at the last Deer Park City Council meeting. A number of committees are in the works for the future of Deer Park including the city pool and the City Hall building. There was also a moment of silence for Don Stevens.
Under debate was increasing property tax and adhering to state laws for public meetings. There was also a discussion about continuing the city’s emergency powers during the pandemic.
Fireworks at Winterfest, Water and Sewer, along with the city’s budget for 2022, were the main topics of the evening. This was the first meeting held after the city’s annual budget workshop. As a result, most of the meeting was spent reviewing the budget. Also discussed at length was state law regarding communication of the budget workshop date and time so that council and community members could be present.
Conducting meetings during the pandemic was the main topic of discussion at the last City Council meeting . City Council members were also not allowed to give reports as they have in the past.
