Emergency Meeting City Considering Fireworks Ban

Not wanting to spark a fire during the Independence Day celebrations, Mayor Tim Verzal has canceled the Deer Park fireworks show scheduled at the Deer Park Sports Complex.

The Mayor called for an emergency meeting to discuss banning both the purchase and discharge of fireworks and to ratify his decision to cancel the fireworks show.

Remembering Why We Celebrate

Independence Day is coming soon. It will be on July 4th, just as it is every year. I have noticed that many people, including myself, have taken to calling this holiday the 4th of July, rather than by its correct name. I don’t understand why this has happened. We don’t do this with our other holidays that are on fixed dates. No one says “Have a Merry 25th of December”, or “Have a Happy 31 December and January 1”. We call them by their proper names. I realize that these are dates that we have assigned to these holidays.

Pursuit in the Deer Park Area

Deputies created a net around the Deer Park area to capture a motorist that was attempting to evade authorities.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies work together to contain a large area in North Spokane County, denying escape routes, forcing the rider to ditch his motorcycle and attempt to hide. K9 Bo quickly found the rider hiding in tall grass and took him into custody. A large number of illegal drugs were discovered in the suspect’s backpack, and a switchblade knife and brass knuckles were found and booked into evidence.
