Spokane County Fire District #4, utilizing the CodeRED system, has implemented further Level 1 evacuation zones as of 6pm on August 21st for the Oregon Road Fire. This is in conjunction with the existing Level 3 evacuation areas that remain in effect. This was confirmed this morning August 22nd.
During Washington State’s wildfire crisis, Governor Inslee visited Spokane County. With the Oregon and Gray Fires continuing to ravage thousands of acres, Inslee’s presence allows him to better communicate the devastating effect on our state to secure federal aid.
Evacuees fleeing the Oregon Road Fire have a range of resources available to them. We have compiled a list of what is available and how others can help people impacted by the fire. For those interested in volunteering & donating, please contact the organizations listed beforehand, as needs will change over time.
Deer Park welcomed a colorful addition as Flowers by Catherine opened its doors to the public. The grand Ribbon Cutting Event took place on August 9th. This shop is owned and operated by local florist Catherine Bratt.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ralph Eugene Clarkson, a cherished soul whose legacy of kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Ralph, affectionately known as ‘Papa,’ quietly passed away on August 13th, 2023, in the presence of his beloved wife Donna.

The Green House Food Bank and Community Resources has updated its hours. The food bank’s Monday hours now go into the evening to better serve those in need. This decision represents a powerful commitment to aid and connect to residents.
The Community Summer Lunch Program in Deer Park, which served vital meals to youth, ended prematurely this year due to low community participation and communication issues. Operated by the Deer Park School District through the Summer Food Service Program, had to be relocated to Perrins Field for this summer.
A summer destination was closed due to staffing challenges, leaving a community disheartened and questioning. With record-high temperatures forecasted immediately following the shutdown, some community members feel heated.
