Ralph Eugene Clarkson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ralph Eugene Clarkson, a cherished soul whose legacy of kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Ralph, affectionately known as ‘Papa,’ quietly passed away on August 13th, 2023, in the presence of his beloved wife Donna.

Ralph was born on January 11th, 1944 in Harper, Kansas to James and Etta Clarkson, moving to Deer Park in 1954. In his early years, he could be counted on to stir the pot with his ornery energy. After graduating from Deer Park High School, he later settled into a long career of steady service at Darigold, supporting his first wife and high school sweetheart Linda. They went on to spend 25 years together on their small farm north of Deer Park where they raised their two daughters, Shanna and Shelley. Known for his genuine and down-to-earth personality, Ralph had a remarkable ability to connect with people and forged countless friendships with those in both his personal and professional communities. With them, he loved hunting, spending time outdoors, and engaging in meaningful chats, often sharing laughter and stories that left a lasting impression. He spent his later years nestled in Springdale alongside the love of his life and final wife of over 20 years, Donna. Her selfless and tender loving care brought him endless happiness and contentment, for which our family is deeply grateful.

Ralph was a straight shooter, both in his words and actions, always hitting the mark. He was there with the wit, wisdom, listening ear, or supportive shoulder you needed, precisely when you needed it. Creating comfort in his company, being loved by Papa meant experiencing pure and unconditional love. Overall, Ralph’s driving force was his devout dedication to his family, a core value which remained from beginning to end. Outside of being an anchor for those he loved, he was fulfilled by soaking in the beauty of nature, the power of poetry, the challenge of a good crossword, and the lure of a baseball game. As someone who was able to find happiness in the little things of life, his well of gratitude never ran dry.

He is survived by his wife Donna Clarkson, his two daughters, Shanna and Shelley, seven granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, two siblings, one niece, and two nephews. Services to mourn his loss and celebrate his life will be at Woodland Cemetery on Saturday August 26th, 2023 at 10:00 AM.

As an animal admirer, contributions may be made in Ralph’s name to the Spokane Humane Society.
