The Deer Park Rotary Club members picked three students for November’s Student of the Month.
Deer Park School District
Liam Bogle, Deer Park Student of the Month, began by expressing his thankfulness. For those who don’t know Liam, he told the Rotary club that he is a very competitive student athlete. Academically, he just tries to do the best he can in classes. Since being a freshman, he has maintained just under a 3.9 GPA. For much of his school career, his identity was tied to athletics. He participated in football, soccer, and wrestling. He competed in wrestling twice at State and then broke his foot. That opened the door for him to get more involved in other school clubs and activities. He has been in Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) for four years and has served in many areas, from store manager to Chapter President. He and his brother, who had also been Chapter President, were recognized for being the first time two Deer Park DECA members served Internationally as Chapter Presidents. He has learned so much from his DECA experience and is looking to a four-year college for a degree in Business. He’d like to return to college later to achieve his master’s degree and go into teaching. Acknowledging the club’s support for events like Night at the North Pole and Pumpkin Lane, Liam expressed gratitude for their contributions to youth in Deer Park. Accompanying him to the meeting was his mother, Tiffany Bogle.
Riverside School District
Ashlee Gentry, maturity, overcoming obstacles, and perseverance are words teachers used to describe this Riverside Student of the Month. Ashlee introduced her grandmother, Ann Gentry. Ashlee is a Drum Major for the Pep and Marching Bands and is in the Concert Band. She is learning how to lead and help others participate in music or other extracurricular activities. Ashlee is the Captain of her Cross-Country Track Team. She feels that what you get from sports is amazing and wonderful. The teams are like a family, encouraging and inspiring one another. If she’s not in school or sports, she’s involved in church. On Sundays, she helps in the nursery, is on the Worship Team on Mondays and Wednesdays, and is a Youth Leader after church. Inspiring young kids and giving back is so important to Ashlee. Both of Ashlee’s parents, struggled with addiction. Teachers at the school encouraged and uplifted Ashlee as she fought through a long and difficult court process. Ashlee plans to study Secondary Education at Grand Canyon University, majoring in Mathematics and Youth Ministry. She wants to be a teacher like the teachers who helped her. She ended by thanking the club for this opportunity.
Mary Walker School District
Nataly Baker, Student of the Month from Mary Walker, volunteered at the Springdale Haunted House and, unfortunately, lost her voice. She was able to tell us that her favorite class is Drama and why it is her favorite. Drama and performing in plays have allowed her to step out of her comfort zone and become more comfortable talking with people. She also likes that her best friend is in the class as well. Attending with Nataly was her father, Jeremiah Baker, and Mary Walker’s Counselor, Joe Garza. Not wanting to strain her voice more than necessary, the club withheld any further questions for her during the meeting.
