Open House: Committee to Support Deer Park Schools

An open house is planned for Wednesday, which is organized by the Committee for Deer Park School District Bond and Levy. The event is designed to connect individuals interested in supporting the upcoming bond and levy. The group is also working to raise funds for materials in support of the campaign.

In an effort to promote quality education within the Deer Park School District, a group of educators, parents, and community members have come together to form the Committee to Support Deer Park School District Bond and Levy. They have created a Facebook page with more details at Facebook.com/profile.php?id=61552667276313.

They are working to garner support for a YES vote on the upcoming February election, which concerns the district’s school bond and levy. To engage the community and offer opportunities for involvement, the Committee invites all interested parties to an Open House event scheduled for Wednesday, October 25th, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. The event will be held at the 1st Street Bar and Grill at 122 W 1st St in Deer Park. There will be a no-host bar.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Open House event, where they can explore various opportunities for involvement. Learn about volunteer positions and find out how they can play a role in shaping the future of Deer Park’s education system. The committee is also working to raise funds to advertise for a Yes vote and is currently seeking donations.  People can donate to the committee using the following address: account.venmo.com/u/csdps414.

This event is in response to the Deer Park School Board’s decision in their September 25th meeting, which passed a resolution to present two funding measures on the ballot scheduled for the Special Election on February 13, 2024.

The first measure involves the renewal of the Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) Levy. This levy will fund day-to-day school operations, encompassing athletics, music, extracurricular activities, textbooks, safety measures, STEM initiatives, and non-state-funded staff like nurses, custodians, maintenance, and technology personnel. This levy replaces the expiring three-year one and requires voter approval for continuation.

The second measure is a Bond Election, which targets pressing facility needs and increasing student enrollment. The funds obtained from this bond will be allocated towards constructing a new elementary school serving grades 2-5, renovating Arcadia to accommodate Home Link and its expanding family base, refurbishing Deer Park Middle School, and replacing the transportation building. The School Board deems these projects crucial for alleviating overcrowding and providing secure, up-to-date facilities conducive to an enriched learning environment.

Further details and opportunities for questions and feedback will be communicated in the upcoming weeks. For additional information, visit the school’s website at DPSD.org/page/bond-levy-information.
