Deer Park Gridiron Battle Against Lakeside

Deer Park football entertained Lakeside in their first true home game after playing their first at Union Stadium. Lakeside brought a 2-0 record and two consecutive Northeast “A” League titles on their resume.

The two squads traded punts and a missed field goal before the Eagles got on the board with an Ian Hamilton 32-yard field goal.

The lead became 5-0 on an errant punt snap that sailed through the end zone.

Lakeside quarterback Calvin Mikkelsen scored on a pair of three-yard keepers to push the visitors lead to 18-0.

Deer Park would reach the end zone on the ensuing possession. A pair of juniors, quarterback Aiden Martin and slot receiver Paul Kapfer, connected for a 36-yard score.

Decader Bird was Martin’s favorite target, collecting six catches for 70 yards. Junior Jack Martinez was the top rusher with 48 yards.

Two weeks on the road, at Omak on September 22nd and Freeman on September 29th, are up next. Those will be followed by the last pair of home dates, October 6th against Medical Lake (homecoming), and the following Friday facing Newport on senior night, October 13th.
