School Board Swears In Allman

Dr. Alexa Allman was recently sworn in as the new superintendent of the Deer Park School District. This formal step solidified her position and marked the official beginning of her tenure.

Dr. Alexa Allman was sworn in at the Board of Directors’ meeting, on July 10th, at 6pm.

On April 10th, the Deer Park School District Board of Directors unanimously chose Dr. Alexa Allman as the next Superintendent of the Deer Park School District, replacing Travis Hanson. Dr. Allman, who was formerly Assistant Superintendent in Deer Park, has also worked as a district-level HR specialist and a building administrator in the Bellevue School District. School board President Eric Keller and member Lindsay Lofstrom praised Dr. Allman’s dedication, communication skills, and community engagement.

In May, Dr. Allman kindly sat down for an interview with the Deer Park Gazette, offering valuable insights to help familiarize the public with her. In the interview, she expressed her aim to connect with the community and foster unity while improving facilities and maintaining the district’s small-town charm. She prioritizes strengthening teaching and learning, emphasizing the importance of community involvement and volunteer programs. Dr. Allman’s teaching background, particularly in middle school, positions her well to lead this initiative effectively. She understands the value of family and community and seeks to enhance student’s educational experiences through engagement. Plans are underway to transform the elementary school into a modern hub to accommodate a growing student population and serve as a community center. By embracing growth and prioritizing community engagement, the district aims to provide quality education while preserving its close-knit atmosphere.

“I really want to get to know this community at a deeper level. I’m running some opportunities over the next couple of months and through the summer, to get to know folks.” Dr. Allman said regarding her plans for working through the summer in our interview.

In Memory of Don/Donnie Gilmore

Donald “Donnie” Eugene Gilmore of Deer Park, Washington, passed away on June 12, 2026, at the age of 73. He was born in Spokane, Washington, on August 22, 1952. In 1973, Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served on active duty for two years. In 1983, he graduated with a degree in education from Eastern Washington University. Don was a beloved teacher at Springdale Elementary for 25 years. He even got to teach his two sons when they were in the fifth grade (much to their chagrin!). He retired in 2015. Don was married to Denise
Wurz (Lesmeister) from 1983 to 1995.

US 395 Lanes Reopened After Collision Near Monroe Road

A traffic collision at the intersection of North US Highway 395 and West Monroe Road temporarily blocked northbound traffic. Emergency crews, including multiple fire units and ambulances, responded to the scene to treat individuals and manage traffic flow. All lanes have since been cleared and reopened to regular traffic.

One of a kind is what most people stated about Luitgard (Margaret), and that is truly what she was! She was born in Bamberg, Germany, to Johann and Betty Wagner, as the second child. She had an older brother, Hans, and a younger sister, Elfriede.

Luitgard was trained as a seamstress in school and worked making men’s suits, among other things. She met the love of her life, Albert Leroy Griffin, in 1951, and they were married on December 6th, 1952.
