Meet The 5 “At Large” School Board Candidates

Meet the five candidates running for the ‘At Large’ position on the Deer Park School District Board. This community gathering offers a chance to learn about each candidate’s vision and priorities for the school district. Everyone is welcome to attend and engage in this informative evening.

The Tri-County Christian Center located at 320 E H St in Deer Park is hosting a special event called, Meet The 5 “At Large” School Board Candidates. Washington state, like many others, has a Top 2 Primary. In this format, the two candidates who receive the most votes in the primary qualify and move on to the General Election. Candidates must also receive at least 1% of the votes cast in that race to advance to the General Election.  The five candidates running for the Deer Park School District Board, At Large position are: Meegan Ware, Eric Keller, Shauneen Flugel, Richard Price, and Samantha Jordan.

The event’s purpose is to provide a platform for the community to meet the five candidates and offers a unique opportunity to learn about each candidate’s vision and priorities.

The event will be on Wednesday, July 26th, from 6:30pm to 8pm. It will also be streamed online to the Deer Park Gazette Facebook page. The event will commence with introductory instructions for the evening. Each candidate will have approximately three minutes to share why they are running and what they consider to be their top priorities. This opening segment will allow the audience to familiarize themselves with candidates’ backgrounds and aspirations.

Following the introductions, all five candidates will take the stage for a round of prepared questions. These questions, crucial to the community’s interests, will be shared with the candidates in advance to enable thoughtful responses during the event.

Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask their own questions during a designated Q&A session. To maintain a focused and respectful atmosphere, participants will be encouraged to keep their inquiries succinct and avoid turning them into lengthy speeches or personal attacks.

Candidates will be given two minutes to respond to questions. If a contender is mentioned, they will have one minute to provide a rebuttal. However, the event will not devolve into a debate or allow for negative candidate exchanges.

Concluding the evening will be a two-minute closing statement from each candidate, allowing them to summarize their main points and messages. Afterward, attendees are invited to mingle with the candidates while enjoying refreshments, fostering a friendly and informal atmosphere to continue the conversation until 8:30pm.

For those interested in attending and have questions or inquiries, please contact the Tri-County Christian Center at 509-276-5484.
