Calvary Christian School Deer Park Is Getting Ready For Their Second Year.

Some families choose public school, some decide to homeschool, and some even choose a mixture of the two. Up until September of 2022, there were really no other choices in the Deer Park area. Now there is.

In September of 2022, Calvary Christian School welcomed its first students. Pastor Bob Monroe, co-founder, says, “(Getting the school up and running) was a long involved process, with many hours of many people taking on different tasks. But It was worth it for the kids.”

Concerning the need for a Christian school in Deer Park, Pastor Bob says, “We strongly felt that (the Deer Park area) need an alternative to public school that taught Biblical principles in its curriculum.”

According to Wendy Herbes, school administrator, all the core subjects such as math, language arts, reading, science, and history are taught using a nationally recognized curriculum. In addition, the curriculum includes arts, music, and Bible lessons.

Currently, Calvary Christian School accepts students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Students from all grades spend a part of the day together, and the rest of the day, they are separated into smaller groups for more individualized learning. Certified lead teachers and the school administrator plan and oversee the curriculum, while experienced educators assist in individualized learning.

Grades 1st through 5th meet Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm. Kindergarten is a half-day program, meeting from 8:30am to 11:30am. “Some 5-year-olds just aren’t ready for a full day,” says lead teacher Lyndsey Witmer. “Our half-day kindergarten gives the students a full age-appropriate learning experience without wearing them out.”

Calvary Christian School is holding an Open House for interested families, on Tuesday, May 30th, from 5pm to 7pm. Families will have the opportunity to see the classrooms, meet the staff, and have any further questions answered by staff and administrators.
