Deer Park Dollars for Scholars (DPDS) presented sixteen scholarships to fourteen students at the Shining Star Award Night at the Deer Park High School this year.

DPDS is a non-profit scholarship foundation that assists students as a resource for financial aid for college. Dollars for Scholars was founded in 2001 and serves graduating seniors in the Deer Park School District.

How Scholarships Are Awarded

Students can apply for local and national scholarships through the DPDS website, as it is affiliated with Scholarship America. Submitting an application is done online, and only one application is necessary to apply for all awards available. Seniors must apply by April in order to be considered.

Though seniors are encouraged to apply for multiple scholarships, the board does ensure that rewards are evenly distributed by selecting a different student for each scholarship available, and by coordinating winners with other scholarships in the community that are not affiliated with Dollars for Scholars.

Award funds are sent directly to the school each senior will be attending. Some collegiate partners of Dollars for Scholars will match awards for students. Each award will be factored in by financial aid from a student’s un-met need, after an institution’s scholarships and loans are applied. An institution’s aid will not be replaced with awards given by DPDS, so that students don’t lose any money towards their school costs.

“A Single Sunbeam is Enough to Drive Away Many Shadows” ST Francis of Assisi

With a heavy heart we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and dear friend Susan G. Robideaux Emry. Susan was born April 18th, 1953, in Spokane, WA, to William and Reubie Robideaux. She went to join the Lord peacefully, in her sleep on August 5th, 2024, at her cherished home on Reflection Lake in Elk, WA. Susan grew up and rivaled her feisty, fun-loving, 5 brothers in Spokane, WA, where they performed musical skits for family friends. She attended Marycliff and Mead High Schools. She met her future husband, Brian (Bud) Emry, at a party and was instantly charmed when he tuned his harmonica in orange soda. Bud, in turn, was captivated by Susan’s party trick – reciting Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards.
