Deer Park & Riverside, Track & Field 2022 State Tournament

For a couple of rain filled days, Deer Park and Riverside athletes were a beacon of sunshine at the 2022 State Championships. Records were broken, championships were won and each athlete represented our communities with grit and determination. 

Coaches strive to have their athletes peak at the right time and finish the season strong. Each of these athletes were able to do so as within the last full week of the season, every single athlete who qualified for the state meet, either had a Personal Record(PR) at Districts or at State. Congratulations to each of them! 

Deer Park High School would also like to acknowledge the Athletic Training partnership they started this year with Deer Park Physical Therapy and The Gym. “Without them, our athletes would not have been able to run and compete as they did. We had a ton of normal minor injuries that could have turned into more serious and season-ending injuries. Brenden Judd and Sean Bernier were a vital component of our athletic success this year and our student-athletes greatly benefited from their knowledge and expertise” Athletic Director Cameron Gilbert said. 

Girls: 

  • Deer Park Girls – 4th Place overall (only five girls) 
  • 4×100 State Champions (Deer Park) – 50.42 – Ellie Levy, Lauren Bonner, Maya Tucker, Ella Carnahan (49.83 PR at Districts – District meet record) – Won State by over a second 
  • 4×200 State Champions (Deer Park) – 1:46.96 – Maya Tucker, Lauren Bonner, Gracelynn Martinson, Ella Carnahan (PR) – Won State by over a second 
  • Shot Put Ambulatory State Champion – Jacinda Distel (Riverside) – 18-02 (PR) 
  • 100 Hurdles – Ellie Levy (Deer Park) – 5th Place – 16.89 (16.80 PR at Districts) 
  • 100 Meters – Lauren Bonner (Deer Park) – 4th Place – 12.72 (PR) 
  • 300 Hurdles – Ellie Levy (Deer Park) – 5th Place – 48.53 (Prelim time of 47.86 is a PR)  
  • 200 Meters – Lauren Bonner (Deer Park) – 4th Place – 26.54 (Prelim time of 26.33 New School Record and PR) 
  • 400 Meters – Niki Swett (Riverside) – 5th Place – 1:02 (PR) 
  • 100 Meters Ambulatory – Jacinda Distel (Riverside) – 3rd Place – 26.65 (PR) 
  • Javelin Ambulatory – Jacinda Distel (Riverside) – 2nd Place  

Boys: 

  • Javelin – Ryan Clayden (Riverside) – 7th Place 146-11 (PR) 
  • Discus – Mason Sweeney (Deer Park) – 16th Place (112-8 PR at Districts) 
  • 400 Meters – Issiah Eastwood (Deer Park) – 4th Place 51.82 (PR)

Shirley McRae Passes Away at 91

Shirley Eleanor (Kintschi) McRae, 91, of Spokane and formerly Deer Park, passed away on December 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born to Morris Kintschi and Anna (Tanner) Kintschi on April 29, 1934, in Edwall, Washington. She graduated from Edwall High School in 1952, where she met her husband-to-be, John McRae. John and Shirley were married in 1954, and they lived in Redondo Beach, California, while John served in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Spokane in 1955, living on Five Mile Prairie, then at Dartford, and finally in the house that John designed and built in Deer Park in 1976, where the family lived for over 42 years.

The Medicine Shoppe in Deer Park is closing its doors permanently on November 28th due to undisclosed circumstances. All patient prescription files are being automatically transferred to Sixth Avenue Pharmacy in Spokane. Patients will need to contact the new pharmacy to update their payment information, as credit card details could not be transferred.
