Deer Park & Riverside, Track & Field 2022 State Tournament

For a couple of rain filled days, Deer Park and Riverside athletes were a beacon of sunshine at the 2022 State Championships. Records were broken, championships were won and each athlete represented our communities with grit and determination.

Coaches strive to have their athletes peak at the right time and finish the season strong. Each of these athletes were able to do so as within the last full week of the season, every single athlete who qualified for the state meet, either had a Personal Record(PR) at Districts or at State. Congratulations to each of them!

Deer Park High School would also like to acknowledge the Athletic Training partnership they started this year with Deer Park Physical Therapy and The Gym. “Without them, our athletes would not have been able to run and compete as they did. We had a ton of normal minor injuries that could have turned into more serious and season-ending injuries. Brenden Judd and Sean Bernier were a vital component of our athletic success this year and our student-athletes greatly benefited from their knowledge and expertise” Athletic Director Cameron Gilbert said.

100 Hurdles – Ellie Levy (Deer Park) – 5th Place – 16.89 (16.80 PR at Districts)
100 Meters – Lauren Bonner (Deer Park) – 4th Place – 12.72 (PR)
300 Hurdles – Ellie Levy (Deer Park) – 5th Place – 48.53 (Prelim time of 47.86 is a PR)
200 Meters – Lauren Bonner (Deer Park) – 4th Place – 26.54 (Prelim time of 26.33 New School Record and PR)
400 Meters – Niki Swett (Riverside) – 5th Place – 1:02 (PR)
100 Meters Ambulatory – Jacinda Distel (Riverside) – 3rd Place – 26.65 (PR)

In Memory of Don/Donnie Gilmore

Donald “Donnie” Eugene Gilmore of Deer Park, Washington, passed away on June 12, 2026, at the age of 73. He was born in Spokane, Washington, on August 22, 1952. In 1973, Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served on active duty for two years. In 1983, he graduated with a degree in education from Eastern Washington University. Don was a beloved teacher at Springdale Elementary for 25 years. He even got to teach his two sons when they were in the fifth grade (much to their chagrin!). He retired in 2015. Don was married to Denise
Wurz (Lesmeister) from 1983 to 1995.

US 395 Lanes Reopened After Collision Near Monroe Road

June 16, 2026

A traffic collision at the intersection of North US Highway 395 and West Monroe Road temporarily blocked northbound traffic. Emergency crews, including multiple fire units and ambulances, responded to the scene to treat individuals and manage traffic flow. All lanes have since been cleared and reopened to regular traffic.

Roberta A. Cade, 81, of Deer Park, Washington, passed away on April 19, 2026. Roberta was the oldest of eight siblings, a role she carried with strength, care, and a deep sense of responsibility throughout her life. She will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and for giving so freely to her friends and family.

Deer Park Kicks Off Summer With Packed Weekend

Luitgard Margrete Griffin

One of a kind is what most people stated about Luitgard (Margaret), and that is truly what she was! She was born in Bamberg, Germany, to Johann and Betty Wagner, as the second child. She had an older brother, Hans, and a younger sister, Elfriede.

Luitgard was trained as a seamstress in school and worked making men’s suits, among other things. She met the love of her life, Albert Leroy Griffin, in 1951, and they were married on December 6th, 1952.

Local Scholar Abram J. Lyons Earns Doctorate in Social Welfare

Claymont, Delaware — Abram J. Lyons’s family proudly announces that he has earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Social Welfare from the University of Pennsylvania, marking a significant milestone in his academic and professional career.

Dr. Lyons began his academic career at Loon Lake Grade School and graduated from Deer Park High School in 2005. He went on to earn his Associate of Arts degree from Spokane Falls Community College and his Bachelor of Science from the University of Idaho before serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Western Ukraine.

Deer Park Joins GSL As 2A School: What To Expect

Deer Park School will see its sports teams face new competition as it transitions from a 1A to a 2A classification this fall. With the start of the season approaching, student-athletes must complete key registration steps, and fans can now take advantage of the convenient GSL pass for game access.

Lady Stags Defended State Titles & Came Home Victorious!

Once again, the Lady Stags track team headed into the District Track meet with their eyes set on going back to back in the 4x100m relay and the 4x200m relay. Last year the Lady Stags went into the State Meet the favorite and came out victorious. This year the stage was set for these two relay teams to do really well, and all of the girls had their eyes set on repeating as State Champions.
