Lawmakers Visit Deer Park School Board

School Districts throughout Washington have been implementing and responding to legislative mandates. The Deer Park School Board has invited local lawmakers and provided a time for public questions and discussion.

In the next two regularly scheduled meetings of the Deer Park’s Board of Directors, they will be hosting Senator Shelly Short on September 27th and Representative Jacquelin Maycumber on October 11th. They state in an email from the Board of Directors to school families on September 24th, “it is our hope that the voices of this community are heard by our elected lawmakers and that we may also gain some perspective from their informed view. ”

The space in the boardroom is limited, and masks are required. However, webinar access to the meetings via Zoom will be available. Zoom’s webinar access allows viewers to see and hear the proceedings and submit questions via the Q&A feature but not allow an open mic to those viewing online.

Registration is required to attend the zoom meeting. You can use the following link to register for this Monday’s meeting.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to join the webinar.

You can submit questions, whether it is for Senator Short or Representative Jacquelin Maycumber, by sending an email to District Superintendent Travis Hanson at [email protected]

The first 30 to 40 minutes will be for questions submitted to Superintendent Hanson before the meeting. Following the moderated Q&A, they plan to allow 15 minutes for open comments and questions for our legislators; comments and questions will have a strict limit of 1 minute during this period.
