River’s Wish Animal Sanctuary Awarded Prestigious Accreditation

River’s Wish Animal Sanctuary was awarded the designation of “Accredited” status by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) on January 29th, 2021. This status globally recognizes the sanctuary as being an exceptional organization employing the highest standards in ethics, animal care, staffing, finance, education, and other features.

“We are so proud to be recognized as an accredited organization by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries,” said Kit Jagoda, Executive Director of River’s Wish Animal Sanctuary. “It is not uncommon for farmed animals to receive minimal regard or protection, making GFAS even more vital in establishing and maintaining policies and standards of care. Our dedicated and compassionate volunteer community works hard to ensure the well-being of the animals and to provide them with a loving environment…”  Begun in 1994, River’s Wish is the oldest forever home for a wide array of discarded or abused farm animals, pets, and other wildlife in Eastern Washington. It inhabits 65 acres west of Riverside State Park in Spokane County. Accredited status is awarded only after rigorous standards of care have been maintained for a considerable length of time. The sanctuary was first given Verification status in July, 2020, a prerequisite to earn the honor of Accredited status.

River’s Wish Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) organization supported by volunteers, donors, art sales, memberships, and funds raised through the AmazonSmile donation program. They offer Humane Education through Art and Animal workshops, Garden to Table workshops, Compassion for Animals, and Compassionate Living workshops.

The refuge is currently closed to visitors due to COVID restrictions.  If you would like to learn more about the sanctuary, please visit their websites at:
