With all of the recent attention on Covid 19, it’s essential to know what’s going on in our State Legislature. The Washington State Legislature only convened once this year, from January to March, during which they proposed over 400 bills. One was Senate Bill (SB) 6567, recognizing December 18th as the state-wide Blood Donor Day. 

On December 18th, 2017, a passenger train derailed near Olympia. Several railcars fell onto Interstate 5, hitting multiple vehicles. Three people were killed, and 65 were injured. 

Thanks to the multi-agency response to the incident, blood was pulled together to treat the injured passengers. As a remembrance to all the kind people who gave blood to save the lives of strangers, Washington State established December 18th as Blood Donor Day. Although this isn’t a legal holiday, it is still a good reminder to get out and donate some blood to help those in need.
