Small Business Bootcamp

The Deer Park Library presents Small Business Boot Camp, a program that helps build skills for greater business success, for business owners, entrepreneurs, and start-ups in Deer Park, Washington.

Small Business Boot Camp meetings will take place on a monthly basis between October 2020 and October 2021. 

About The Workshops

Small Business Boot Camp is a series of once-a-month workshops being taught online by subject experts. Benefits will also include additional training provided at individual business locations, as well as networking opportunities with other business owners. The library is offering this series at no-charge to qualified applicants.

Business owners and entrepreneurs should anticipate homework assignments that will need to be completed between meetings. Once they have completed the program, they will receive a micro-grant to fund a project of their choosing to enhance their business.

To begin with, these workshops will be held remotely.  If, later, classes can be held in person, childcare may be available.

  • Registration is limited to businesses in Deer Park, Washington 
  • The deadline is Monday, September 14, 2020 
  • All applicants will be notified by September 25, 2020
  • Participants should anticipate homework assignments that would need to be completed between meetings

Organizations Beyond The Boot Camp

Small Business Boot Camp is a program of Libraries Build Business, an initiative funded by the American Library Association, and sponsored by Google.org.

Deer Park Library, part of the Spokane County Library District, has the official role as Neighborhood Champion, promoting Small Business Saturday and the Shop Small movement. Through experience working with the area businesses, the Library District has identified the programs that local businesses need to expand and enhance Small Business Saturday and beyond.

Shirley McRae Passes Away at 91

Shirley Eleanor (Kintschi) McRae, 91, of Spokane and formerly Deer Park, passed away on December 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born to Morris Kintschi and Anna (Tanner) Kintschi on April 29, 1934, in Edwall, Washington. She graduated from Edwall High School in 1952, where she met her husband-to-be, John McRae. John and Shirley were married in 1954, and they lived in Redondo Beach, California, while John served in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Spokane in 1955, living on Five Mile Prairie, then at Dartford, and finally in the house that John designed and built in Deer Park in 1976, where the family lived for over 42 years.

Closing Soon The Medicine Shoppe In Deer Park

The Medicine Shoppe in Deer Park is closing its doors permanently on November 28th due to undisclosed circumstances. All patient prescription files are being automatically transferred to Sixth Avenue Pharmacy in Spokane. Patients will need to contact the new pharmacy to update their payment information, as credit card details could not be transferred.
