Stories Wanted: Father’s Day Tributes

Dad: role model, protector, best friend, boss. They’re alongside us for the best of times and the worst of times. Father’s Day is right around the corner (June 21st). We want to hear your favorite memories of your fathers or fatherly figures.

I’m not embarrassed to call my dad my best friend. My favorite memories of him are endless… Perhaps the countless late nights and early mornings spent with our noses in books, whether it be Harry Potter or Calculus & Analytical Geometry. Maybe that time we spent all night out on the Las Vegas strip, eating sushi and conquering the Stratosphere. Or maybe, it’s the hours I spent with him on the jobsite as the boss’s daughter, playing in the sawdust and listening to Bon Jovi on the radio, talking about everything on my little mind. He’s the first person I go to with boy problems. He’s the best tutor on my math homework. He’s my original adventure pal and whose hand I held during many roller coasters (and many more to come). He’s the king of bad jokes and responsible for my goofy sense of humor. He taught me how to ride a bike, how to shoot a gun, and how to drive a car. He taught me how to speak up and when to be silent, how to be strong and when it’s okay to break, the right way to love someone, and why family is everything. He always has been and always will be my greatest protector.

Letter To The Editor – School Levy Importance

As a city council member in the late 70’s and early 80’s and a city employee for 24 years I have heard a lot of misinformation disseminated through “coffee shop” talk and later social media. It has always concerned me to hear incorrect information passed along by people who don’t bother to ask for the facts, when they are readily available. Right now I am hearing of things being said about the Deer Park School levy, particularly the need for a new bus barn, that are troubling.
