Have Your Say On Deer Park’s Parks & Recreation

From splash pads to pickleball, Deer Park City wants to know what makes people get off the couch. Don’t wait because time is running out to take the 2025 survey, share your thoughts on recreation projects, and enter to win a gift card.

Deer Park residents now have the chance to help shape the future of their community’s parks. The City of Deer Park has launched a Parks and Recreation Survey that asks citizens to weigh in on new facilities, recreation priorities, and improvements. The feedback will be used to update the city’s Parks and Recreation Plan, which serves as the foundation for future investments and planning.

To encourage participation, residents who complete the survey can enter into a drawing for a $100 dinner certificate. Only one entry per person will be accepted, and a valid email address is required to qualify. Redundant surveys will result in disqualification and removal of the survey. The winner will be notified by email in September.

The survey highlights several options for potential development, including an indoor family fitness and aquatic center, paved walking and biking trails, turf sports fields, new playgrounds, and a dog park. Residents are asked to indicate how strongly they support each project, while also providing input on the quality of maintenance of existing park facilities.

In addition to ranking facility priorities, the survey seeks opinions on broader questions, such as whether the city should provide active recreation programs like summer camps, sports, and fitness classes. It also raises the issue of Deer Park’s seventy-year-old swimming pool, which will eventually need significant investment or replacement. Community members are encouraged to share whether they would prefer maintaining the existing pool or pursuing a new aquatic facility.

The city is also exploring the idea of forming a “Park District,” which would help generate additional funding from state and local sources. Another question asks if residents would support expanding the city’s partnership with Deer Park School District to share gymnasiums and other recreation facilities.
