Deer Park Rotary Club Hosts September Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Deer Park recognized students from Deer Park, Riverside and Mary Walker High Schools as the September Students of the Month at their September 5, 2019, weekly meeting.

Student of the Month Program

Molly Keller is the September Student of the Month from Deer Park High School. She is currently the ASB President, a member of Key Club, DECA and is involved with many activities at school. She plans to attend either University of Washington or Montana State University in Business studies. Her favorite subject is Business and Marketing. She ran the coffee shop at school which, with another student run business, grossed over $60,000 last year!

Liam Ross is the September Student of the Month from Riverside High School and is Student Body President. He comes from a very large family, loves baseball and is looking into baseball scholarships. He talked about the culture change at Riverside and and is excited that more students are involved. He is interested in the Fish & Game Department and loves the outdoors. He enjoys welding and is in Advanced Welding at school. He will be part of the FM Sports baseball team in Seattle with exposure to college baseball scouts.

Samantha Donahue is the September Student of the Month from Mary Walker High School. She was born in Montana and has moved back and forth between Montana and Washington living with grandparents and friends. She is heavily involved in Substance Abuse Programs and Prevention. She is Student Body President and in the National Honor Society. She loves to play softball and volleyball. She plans to attend Montana State University and go into Elementary Education and Development Psychology. She loves English Composition, Calculus and Financial math.

Deer Park Rotary raises money through an annual Petunia Sale in the spring, an annual Golf Tournament in September, and other activities supported by their local community. Much of their fundraising goes toward support of education in the Deer Park area, including scholarships for Deer Park, Riverside and Mary Walker High Schools and the Student of the Month Program.

Albert Warren Stevens 1937 – 2026

Albert “Al” Stevens was born to Warren and Luella Stevens on December 4, 1937. He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1955, attended EWU for two years, and served in the Army National Guard. Like his late brother Donald, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources as a firefighter but spent most of his career in sales.

US-395 Reopened Following Motorcycle & Pickup Collision

Traffic is moving again on US-395, but the investigation into today’s serious motorcycle crash is far from over.

As of 5pm today, all lanes of US-395 have been reopened to traffic. Earlier today, a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a white pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 395 and H Street, which is near Henery Hardware, forced a complete closure of the highway, resulting in significant gridlock through the heart of Deer Park.
