Finding Your Roots

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the history of your area or your ancestors?

Our local communities are rich with antiquity.  Many of the buildings and roads are named for founding members of our city.  These settlers are a vital part of our past, as well as being quite interesting individuals.

There are several resources to learn more about the founders and the history of our communities.  The local libraries also have resources to find more about our personal history and genealogy.

Historical Societies

Both the Clayton and Deer Park Historical Society (CDPHS) and the Loon Lake Historical Society have archives and a collection of photographs of the many communities and towns in our area.

For more Information contact:

Libraries

Both the Spokane and Stevens County libraries offer free access to Ancestry.com where you can create a login and collect information about your family’s records.

If you have any questions, contact your local library to get answers and learn more

Genealogy Society

If you need a little extra help getting started or sorting through what you’ve found, the Northeast Washington Genealogy Society is an organization that is over 30 years old. The group provides education and aids the research of family history.  Each gathering includes a general meeting as well as a special speaker on a related topic. Everyone is invited to attend, and learn more about the fascinating art of genealogical research.

Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at 1pm in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 260 E Juniper Ave, in Colville.

Susan was born April 18th, 1953, in Spokane, WA, to William and Reubie Robideaux. She went to join the Lord peacefully, in her sleep on August 5th, 2024, at her cherished home on Reflection Lake in Elk, WA. Susan grew up and rivaled her feisty, fun-loving, 5 brothers in Spokane, WA, where they performed musical skits for family friends. She attended Marycliff and Mead High Schools. She met her future husband, Brian (Bud) Emry, at a party and was instantly charmed when he tuned his harmonica in orange soda. Bud, in turn, was captivated by Susan’s party trick – reciting Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards.
