More extreme weather befell Deer Park July 23rd. An energetic and powerful storm moved slowly through the area and with over 3,000 lightning strikes, it touched off several fires. With brief but heavy rain and strong winds, the storm also left other damage in its wake.
Mary Basta and her family were literally shaken, as a tree tumbled down on top of their home. The tall pine was approximately 2 feet in diameter, and had crashed through the roof of the Basta’s bedroom. Thankfully, no one was in the room at the time.
Due to the damage caused by the falling conifer, the Basta’s daughter has set up a Gofundme campaign. The repairs will take time, and it is unclear whether insurance will cover any of the costs.
