Bricks From Above

The Olson (Olsen) building has been on the corner of Main since 1908; this iconic brick structure has had many purposes over the years, from a hotel to apartments, along with various storefronts and restaurants. The upstairs of the building is currently vacant.

Often we drive by the old construction with nary a thought, but recently the Olson building called for attention by dropping a few of her bricks on the sidewalk. No one was hurt in the incident, but the canopy below was torn, and the area roped off by the responding fire department. We reached out to the building owner, who declined to comment, therefore there is no confirmation on the cause or extent of the damage.

Letter To The Editor – School Levy Importance

As a city council member in the late 70’s and early 80’s and a city employee for 24 years I have heard a lot of misinformation disseminated through “coffee shop” talk and later social media. It has always concerned me to hear incorrect information passed along by people who don’t bother to ask for the facts, when they are readily available. Right now I am hearing of things being said about the Deer Park School levy, particularly the need for a new bus barn, that are troubling.
