A successful art practice is akin to a wheel with many spokes, according to Harry Mestyanek. Mestyanek, a retired landscape architect, is now a full time ceramicist and potter. “You must be knowledgeable [and] proficient at many things,” he adds. “In the practice of ceramics and pottery you wear many hats.”
Each year, Deer Park Dollars for Scholars (DPDS) raises funds with the help of community volunteers to support local students in their efforts to reach and achieve their educational goals. Dollars for Scholars is a non-profit, tax-exempt scholarship foundation that assists students as a resource for collegiate financial aid. Founded in 2001, Dollars for Scholars became Deer Park’s locally supported and operated chapter of Scholarship America, aiding graduating seniors in the Deer Park School District.
The Pend Oreille County Master Gardeners are offering a free, live, internet class called “Bear Aware”, on Thursday, May 21st, from 6:30pm-8:00pm. The class will be taught by County Extension Director, Mike Jensen, who will provide information and educational resources so a person can safely and responsibly enjoy bears in the wild. If a close encounter should occur, the goal is to educate you on the best way to handle the situation and minimize the bear encounter risk.
The Washington State legislature recently passed House Bill (HB) 1638, mandating vaccines, with a 25 to 22 vote in the Senate.
