Deer Park Gazette:
I am writing in response to the Meet the Candidates forum held at the Tri County Christian Center on July 26tth, advertised as a forum for the community to engage with the five candidates.

I am the pastor who organized and moderated the Candidate Forum in our church building on Wednesday, July 26th. I was very grateful to have all five candidates present, and most responses I received were positive and appreciative. But not everyone was happy. Yes, my “agenda” was to allow the voters to meet, hear from, and speak to each of the five candidates so they could decide for themselves. No one else had offered, so I did.

I received my Voter’s Pamphlet today, and skipped over many pages to read who is running for the Deer Park School Board. There are five people challenging the incumbent who has been serving for sixteen years.

It’s Independence Day! The 4th of July. Every year, from as far back as our collective memories can remember, families have celebrated the Birth of our Nation in many ways; parades, picnics, camping trips, but mostly: fireworks.

There was no “business as usual” for the Green House Food Bank in 2022. We experienced a lot of changes, expected and unexpected. I’m proud of the resilience of our team and clients. I’m thankful for the steady and generous support of our local community.

Attached is a link to my election website: https://dpfordp.com/ I would appreciate that before you post anything regarding my candidacy that you run it by me.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve our community these past few years, but my family and work situations are very different than when I ran for office in 2019. Are you interested in serving Deer Park? You need to file as a candidate with the Spokane County elections office between May 15th-19th.

Over the last several decades Deer Park has lost several historic buildings – but there is now hope for one. At the Council Meeting on April 19th the council directed that work continue on plans to remodel the historic City Hall building from 1911. While still years away from any construction several significant phases have been completed.

I am deeply honored and grateful to have been selected as Deer Park School District’s next superintendent by our Board of Directors. After serving Deer Park’s students, staff, and community for the past two years, I have learned how truly special our community is and look forward to continuing our journey together.

Sometimes, something dramatic can shake people and institutions out of their complacency. Such was the case two summers ago when a group of extortionists stole data from the owners and operators of a critical American fuel pipeline. The hackers, calling themselves DarkSide and believed to be operating from eastern Europe, used malware to encrypt Colonial Pipeline’s data, then demanded payment before they would release it.
