These pretty flowering cacti are tropical cactus! They grow attached to trees in the jungles of Brazil, not in deserts on the ground! So keep pots small, short, and squat rather than deep to mimic their natural growing conditions.

In a New Years’ message from Deer Park School Superintendent Travis Hanson, he expressed thanks and appreciation for the hard teamwork by parents/guardians, students, and staff in maintaining COVID guidelines. He also noted Deer Park is in the 15% of WA state schools who currently have access to in-person learning.

A.J. Steinbeck, Deer Park High School November Student of the Month, was introduced by Principal Joe Feist as an academic and an athlete. He is Captain of the Football and Track Teams and an avid outdoorsman. A.J. said he enjoys everything outdoors!

Approval has been given to Bailey Holdings, LLC to renovate commercial space on Main Street into multi-family housing. Dave Hubert, Spokane County Hearing Examiner, approved the conditional-use permit after a public hearing was held via Zoom on November 19th, 2020.

Further development of the Mill Pond Raceway has been put on hold until appeals can be heard in front of a Spokane County Hearing Examiner in early January 2021. The appeals are in response to a “Determination of Non-Significance” issued by Spokane County Public Works on August 24, 2020. This determination declared the area “does not have a probable significant adverse impact on the environment.”

With a cut of the golden scissors, Jeff Whittle, President of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, officially opened The Hotspot on November 17th. Located at North 104 Main Street in Deer Park, The Hotspot is a coworking office space providing a host of professional amenities to area entrepreneurs, small businesses, and/or individuals.

In honor of some of the precious children that were brought into this world during the pandemic and following months, we have the “I’m a Quaranteenie” onesie. The sweet babies born this year are wonderful reminders that the first year of the pandemic wasn’t all bad.

Consumer fireworks remain legal within the Deer Park City limits on New Year’s Eve, starting at 5pm and ending at 12:30am January 1st.
