This past month has been very busy for the Chamber. The Board has been working hard to get processes in place and set proper expectations for our location at City Hall. Please take note that Kelsey Pitts will be in the Chamber office M-Th from 8am-12pm. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for your tremendous support during our recent Levy election.
Most people in Deer Park want a local police force but their biggest concern is cost. I agree. I don’t want to raise taxes or break the bank for a local department. And although many people say there have been studies done on the cost of starting a police force, the city has no record of any studies ever done. And for all the people who have said they have run the numbers, no one has ever shown me any of their numbers.

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of you who helped us make it through the July 4th holiday with very little impact from fireworks. I realize it is “no fun” to miss out on this tradition it is one of the ways we show our patriotism to celebrate this great nation.
Vote yes to re-elect Mayor Tim Verzal. I would describe Mayor Verzal’s last term of office with three words; commitment, experience, performance.
COVID-19 has dominated our conversation and our thoughts for over a year. The virus brought with it some tough challenges. 2020 was a year of difficult transitions; however, you might say that is true of any year. That is the nature of our existence. We grow older, we change, the world changes and it requires that we change with it.

City Hall is falling down.
After bringing this topic to the council’s attention on multiple occasions I shared the thoughts below with them at tonight’s meeting on April 21st. I also wanted to share these thoughts with the wider community as I add my voice to the ongoing discussion happening throughout our town.
A few caveats: I don’t have this all figured out, I don’t have a specific option that I prefer for how to remedy the situation, and I believe we should make this decision slowly. I also strongly believe in wise preparations and think we should begin setting aside funds from future budgets so that we live within our means just like any wise family in our community.
