Emergency Meeting City Considering Fireworks Ban

Not wanting to spark a fire during the Independence Day celebrations, Mayor Tim Verzal has canceled the Deer Park fireworks show scheduled at the Deer Park Sports Complex.

The Mayor called for an emergency meeting to discuss banning both the purchase and discharge of fireworks and to ratify his decision to cancel the fireworks show.

Roundabout Opening At Crawford and Colville

Deer Park is heading into Phase 2 of the construction on the Crawford and Colville project. The roundabout will be open as Phase 1 is nearly completed. There will be a reduction to detours during the reconstruction between Crawford and 3rd on Colville.

$15,195 Scholarship Awarded

Deer Park Dollars for Scholars presented 14 students with scholarships this year in an amount totaling $15,195.

The awards were handed out at the Senior Awards program at the Deer Park High School on June 9th. Each year, Deer Park Dollars for Scholars (DPDS) raises funds with the help of community donations to support local students to succeed in their post secondary education.

Lifeguards Needed: Last Day To Apply

City efforts have been made to ensure the pool can open this summer, including hiring a handful of lifeguards. Despite increasing the pay to $22 per hour, no one has applied for the job. The opportunity to sign up for lifeguard certification class ends today.
