Why H Street Is Closed

Firefighters and EMTs were responding to a medical emergency on H Street.

Starting today, April 1st, H Street will be closed to through traffic from its intersection with Colville Street to an unspecified point to the west. According to signs posted by the City of Deer Park, the closure is expected to last until April 5th. Unfortunately, first responders were unaware of the closure today during a medical emergency.

Responders from Spokane County Fire District 4 and an AMR Ambulance were able to determine what needed to happen and quickly navigate the detour. They were attempting to respond to a call in the area of the Fairground Apartments.

Deer Park residents and commuters should also be prepared for the temporary closure of H Street from April 1st to April 5th. According to Brandon Gray from Deer Park City Hall, the closure is necessary to facilitate a sewer tie-in for a property located at the corner of H and Colville Streets.

In addition to the sewer work, the property on the corner is finishing up subdivided into eight lots by Lifestyle Homes LLC. Teri Simonson, a representative from the company, shared that while they currently have no specific plans for the lots, the subdivision is an investment for future development. The subdivision process has been ongoing for over two years.

The lots could potentially be used for single-family homes or duplexes, but the company has not finalized any decisions regarding the phases or types of construction. The subdivision process itself is the immediate focus during the street closure.

Residents and travelers in the area should plan alternative routes during the five-day closure period to avoid potential delays and congestion. The City of Deer Park and Lifestyle Homes will coordinate efforts to minimize disruptions and complete the necessary work as efficiently as possible.

Letter To The Editor – School Levy Importance

As a city council member in the late 70’s and early 80’s and a city employee for 24 years I have heard a lot of misinformation disseminated through “coffee shop” talk and later social media. Right now I am hearing of things being said about the Deer Park School levy, particularly the need for a new bus barn, that are troubling.
