Another Widespread Power Outage Affects Deer Park Area

Avista’s Power Outage Map shows a wide area impacted.

Update 2:08pm: The power has been restored to parts of Deer Park within the city limits. 

A power outage that began at 1:36 PM today affected Deer Park and a broad surrounding area, extending as far north as Loon Lake and south to Nine Mile Falls. Avista estimates power will be restored around 4:30 PM.

The power outage that struck Deer Park at 1:36 PM today has proven widespread, impacting the city and a significant portion of the surrounding region. Reports indicate that homes as far north as Loon Lake and south to Nine Mile Falls are currently without electricity.

Avista, the local utility company, is working to restore power to the affected areas. Their outage map shows that crews have been dispatched to identify and resolve the issue, with an estimated restoration time of around 4:30 PM.

This latest power outage came just a week after a similar incident that left Deer Park residents without electricity for several hours. In that case, Avista cited a primary breaker failure as the cause of the outage, which initially affected over 4,000 customers.

FRED R. MILLER,  passed away at home on Jan 14, 2026.  Fred was born in Spokane WA, on April 4,1944.   He grew up in Spokane attending Central Valley High School until his senior year, graduating from Deer Park High School in 1962.  Fred enlisted in the Navy out of high school, spending time in San Diego and Annapolis. He later graduated from WSU with distinction.

Shirley McRae Passes Away at 91

Shirley Eleanor (Kintschi) McRae, 91, of Spokane and formerly Deer Park, passed away on December 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born to Morris Kintschi and Anna (Tanner) Kintschi on April 29, 1934, in Edwall, Washington. She graduated from Edwall High School in 1952, where she met her husband-to-be, John McRae. John and Shirley were married in 1954, and they lived in Redondo Beach, California, while John served in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Spokane in 1955, living on Five Mile Prairie, then at Dartford, and finally in the house that John designed and built in Deer Park in 1976, where the family lived for over 42 years.
