Riverside Rams vs Bellevue Christian

For the second consecutive Saturday, the Riverside boys basketball team faced a do-or-die elimination matchup, this time on the game’s grandest stage, the state tournament, against Bellevue Christian at West Valley High School. The Rams stood the test, winning 68-58.

A 7-0 run in just under two and a half minutes of the opening period pushed the Rams lead to 12-4. The advantage would grow to 19-8 as the quarter ended. Daniel Schneider had seven points, and Jake Graham had six.

Daniel Schneider also enjoyed a productive second quarter, adding to his total and scoring a dozen in the first half. The last two on passes from Jake Gaffaney. The two senior all-league selections teamed up for a rim-rattling alley-oop to bring the Rams faithful to their feet. Riverside took a 29-19 lead into intermission.

The second half opened with the #14-seeded Vikings going on an 11-3 run to knot the score at 32. The two squads traded buckets as the third quarter ended even at 37, but the Rams had yet to trail.

Momentum swung in the direction of the #11-seeded Rams only 34 seconds into the final quarter when Bellevue Christian was assessed an unsportsmanlike technical foul. Daniel Schneider converted a free throw, having been fouled while shooting, and Graham hit both technical freebies. On the ensuing Riverside possession, Graham was fouled on a three-point attempt and hit all three free throws. With only 1:41 gone in the final quarter, the Rams were up seven. The points by Graham were his first since the opening period.

The Northeast “A” League MVP would go on to tally twelve in the fourth and finished with 18 as Riverside advanced to a Wednesday 9:00 am pairing with sixth-seeded Royal in yet another elimination game at the Yakima Valley Sundome, with the winner earning a date on Thursday with fifth-seeded Seattle Academy. Daniel Schneider topped Ram, scoring 19, Andrew Campea had 12, and Jake Gaffaney had 10.

In Memory of Don/Donnie Gilmore

Donald “Donnie” Eugene Gilmore of Deer Park, Washington, passed away on June 12, 2026, at the age of 73. He was born in Spokane, Washington, on August 22, 1952. In 1973, Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served on active duty for two years. In 1983, he graduated with a degree in education from Eastern Washington University. Don was a beloved teacher at Springdale Elementary for 25 years. He even got to teach his two sons when they were in the fifth grade (much to their chagrin!). He retired in 2015. Don was married to Denise
Wurz (Lesmeister) from 1983 to 1995.

US 395 Lanes Reopened After Collision Near Monroe Road

A traffic collision at the intersection of North US Highway 395 and West Monroe Road temporarily blocked northbound traffic. Emergency crews, including multiple fire units and ambulances, responded to the scene to treat individuals and manage traffic flow. All lanes have since been cleared and reopened to regular traffic.

One of a kind is what most people stated about Luitgard (Margaret), and that is truly what she was! She was born in Bamberg, Germany, to Johann and Betty Wagner, as the second child. She had an older brother, Hans, and a younger sister, Elfriede.

Luitgard was trained as a seamstress in school and worked making men’s suits, among other things. She met the love of her life, Albert Leroy Griffin, in 1951, and they were married on December 6th, 1952.

Local Scholar Abram J. Lyons Earns Doctorate in Social Welfare

Claymont, Delaware — Abram J. Lyons’s family proudly announces that he has earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Social Welfare from the University of Pennsylvania, marking a significant milestone in his academic and professional career.

Dr. Lyons began his academic career at Loon Lake Grade School and graduated from Deer Park High School in 2005. He went on to earn his Associate of Arts degree from Spokane Falls Community College and his Bachelor of Science from the University of Idaho before serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Western Ukraine.

Deer Park Girls vs Bellevue Christian

Albeit in a different fashion, the Deer Park Lady Stags took another step towards making history on Saturday with a first-round (regional) win over Bellevue Christian 41-35 at their postseason home away from home West Valley High School. With the victory, Deer Park advances to the Thursday 9:00 pm quarterfinal game against the winner of the Wednesday matchup between eighth-seeded Toppenish and number nine Cashmere needing one more win for the program’s first-ever state trophy.
