Letter To Editor – YES for the Deer Park Schools – Peggy Coyle

Typewriter with paper reading "Letters to the Editor"

By voting YES for the Deer Park Schools building BOND and Education Programs and Operations LEVY, you are actively adding value to your community. By reconfiguring grade levels in the primary schools and adding an additional elementary building, the school district will be able to provide safe and secure educational facilities for our growing community. The additional elementary building and new bus garage will be located next to the current elementary school on “D” street. This street will be extended and connected to Crawford which will alleviate substantial traffic congestion by the schools.

This Bond and Levy will not increase your property taxes as they are replacing the current 20-year high school renovation bond, and the levy is renewable every three years. Our district has been very fiscally responsible and has provided outstanding maintenance on our current buildings. Our 100-year-old bus garage has nothing left to give and wasting additional dollars trying to keep it functional is unwise and a waste. With the new State of Washington clean energy laws, our schools need updates, and no amount of money would bring the bus garage up to state standards.

Our schools not only offer vocational training, varied educational opportunities and athletic programs, but the buildings host many community activities and recreational sports events. When investing in our schools, we are investing in our community.
