Series Of Victories In Volleyball For Lady Stags

As the calendar turns to October, the Lady Stags volleyball squad is riding a hot streak with six wins in seven matches.

On Saturday, September 23rd, they traveled to the Quincy tournament, taking three of four contests.

Tuesday the 26th, the first half of league play concluded with a four-set win in Newport.

Returning home to open the second half of league play on Thursday the 28th, against Colville, the Lady Stags and their faithful fans were in for a lengthy evening.

The opening set saw neither side lead by more than two points until Deer Park went up 18-15. Junior Emma Brownell served an ace for a 19-15 lead. The visitors closed to 19-18 before junior Camryn Chapman recorded back-to-back kills, making it 21-18. She would add an ace at the service line, and a Caitlyn Watson kill would close out set one 25-20.

Set two was the Kolbie Colliver show early, with the junior recording blocked, kills, and aces in multiple quantities. She was at the service line for a 9-0 Deer Park run that turned a 5-4 deficit into a 13-5 advantage. The home side led 2-0 after taking the set 25-15.

Momentum swung the direction of Colville during sets three and four, 25-19 and 25-21.

In the deciding set, strong set play by Colliver and Chapman fueled a 5-2 advantage. Newman served seven consecutive points for an 11-2 cushion as set five was A 15-4 Lady Stags triumph.

Chapman would total 20 kills, Newman 35 assists, Colliver nine aces, and Brownell 20 digs.

The next home action is Thursday against perennial 2B power Colfax.
