Big Hunk Serving Against Cancer

Key Club’s international logo.

Big Hunk is the Deer Park High School Key Club’s annual boy’s volleyball tournament to raise money for a variety of charitable causes. This year all proceeds are going to “Alex’s Lemonade Stand” Foundation for Childhood Cancer. Key Club would like you to come out and support your high school junior and senior guys’ volleyball as they battle it out for cancer.

The event starts at 6pm on Tuesday, November 15th at the Deer Park High School. Doors open at 5:45pm. Donated items from local businesses will be raffled off at the event. Organizers are asking for $5 to get into the event; raffle tickets can be purchased for an additional $1 each.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged in the year 2000 in the form of the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott. Alex, who was fighting cancer, and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Her spirit and determination inspired others to support and join her efforts. Alex passed away at the age of 8, by that time she had helped raise over $1 million. Today, ALSF is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. and Canada, raising more than $250 million so far, funding over 1,000 research projects, and providing programs to families affected by childhood cancer. What is the Key Club?
Key Club members are high school students worldwide who are learning to lead and stand for what’s right through service and volunteerism. In partnership with their local Kiwanis club, teens are making a positive impact as they serve others in their schools and communities.

The Deer Park Key Club is looking for new members, and any high school-age student can join. Dues for the year are just $25. Students earn time towards mandatory volunteer hours for graduation requirements, great experience and a cool t-shirt too.
