New Council Member Appointed

Nearing the deadline, the Deer Park City Council has made an appointment to fill the vacancy left by Ron Scholz. Originally ten residents applied for the open position. The council opted to interview only three candidates, James Scholz, Nicholas Minzghor, and Naomi Diaz.

During the previous city council meeting held in May, the council members narrowed the candidates during an executive session. At the first council meeting in June, each of the current council members asked the three remaining candidates several questions. After another executive session a motion was made to appoint Naomi Diaz to the council. The vote was split  3 to 1, with Upchurch, Newsom, and Stapp in favor and Cragun against.

Naomi Diaz will be sworn in at the next city council meeting on June 15th. In less than a year she will have to decide if she wants to run to retain her new position.
