Falling Debris Lands In Deer Park

Winds have pushed ash and debris from the Ford Corkscrew fire to the Deer Park area. The fire started on August 15th and has already burned over 3,000 acres and triggered level 3 evacuations. 

Pictured above is one of the larger pieces of debris found in Deer Park. The branch landed about 16 miles from the current location of the fire. In addition, there were some reports of glowing embers landing in the area; however, we could not confirm those sightings. Statistically, embers pose minimal risk beyond a mile from the fire of their origin.

Throughout the day, aircraft from Deer Park had been sent to fight the fire, including the well-known Fire Boss pontoon planes. Several other aircraft were also in the vicinity battling the blaze.

Like his late brother Donald, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources as a firefighter but spent most of his career in sales.

US-395 Reopened Following Motorcycle & Pickup Collision

Traffic is moving again on US-395, but the investigation into today’s serious motorcycle crash is far from over.

As of 5pm today, all lanes of US-395 have been reopened to traffic. Earlier today, a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a white pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 395 and H Street, which is near Henery Hardware, forced a complete closure of the highway, resulting in significant gridlock through the heart of Deer Park.

Corkscrew Fire Update 8/30/2021

There was a final update from Southwest Incident Management Team 5, on August 29th due to a Type 4 Organization taking over. Starting today, August 30th, all evacuation levels have been lifted. In addition, there is a new number to call if the public has any concerns about fire.
